Definition

In the context of digital reverb, an algorithm is the mathematical formula or set of calculations that generates the reverb effect. Different algorithms produce different types of reverb (hall, room, plate, chamber, etc.).

How It Works

Reverb algorithms simulate how sound reflects in spaces by calculating:

  • Early reflection patterns and timing
  • Diffusion and density of the reverb tail
  • Frequency-dependent decay rates
  • Modulation and movement within the reverb

Types of Algorithms

  • Hall: Simulates concert halls and large spaces
  • Room: Simulates smaller, more intimate spaces
  • Plate: Emulates mechanical plate reverbs
  • Chamber: Models echo chamber characteristics
  • Spring: Recreates spring reverb behavior
  • Convolution
  • Impulse Response
  • DSP (Digital Signal Processing)
