Damping

Definition
Damping controls how quickly certain frequencies decay within the reverb. High-frequency damping causes bright sounds to die away faster than low frequencies, simulating how real rooms absorb sound.
High-Frequency Damping
Controls the absorption of treble frequencies:
- More damping: Darker, warmer reverb tail
- Less damping: Brighter, more present reverb
Low-Frequency Damping
Controls bass frequency decay:
- More damping: Tighter low end, less mud
- Less damping: Fuller, potentially boomy reverb
Real-World Analogy
In real spaces:
- Carpeted rooms have high damping (absorb highs)
- Tile/concrete rooms have low damping (bright reflections)
- All real spaces have some natural damping
