Wet/Dry Mix

Definition

The wet/dry mix controls the balance between the original (dry) signal and the processed (wet) reverb signal. It's typically expressed as a percentage.

Understanding Wet/Dry

  • 0% wet (100% dry): Only original signal, no reverb
  • 50% wet: Equal parts original and reverb
  • 100% wet: Only reverb, no dry signal

Insert vs. Send

Insert Processing

When using reverb as an insert effect, you adjust the wet/dry mix directly on the plugin. Typical settings are 10-30% wet.

Send/Return Processing

When using aux sends, set the reverb to 100% wet. Control the blend using the send level from each track. This is the preferred professional method.

Why Sends Are Preferred

  • Multiple tracks can share one reverb (saves CPU)
  • More flexible routing options
  • Easier to EQ and process the reverb separately
  • Better for creating consistent spaces
  • Aux Send
  • Parallel Processing
  • Return
